About this site

Memorable credentials, explained plainly

Free Passphrase Generator is a focused utility for creating random, readable credentials. It was built to make the safer choice easier: longer, unique passphrases made from unrelated words rather than personal details, quotations, or predictable substitutions.

How the generator works

Passphrase mode draws from manually curated general, theme, industry, and security word lists. It avoids duplicate words in a result and uses PHP's cryptographically secure random-number function for each selection. Password mode uses the same secure random source to select characters and guarantees representation from each enabled character group.

The themed vocabulary is for memorability and personal preference. A theme does not make a passphrase inherently stronger. Length, random selection, and using a different result for every account are the principles that matter most.

Our editorial approach

Words are selected from allowlists intended to produce neutral, broadly usable results. Security guidance on this site is written for everyday users and is reviewed when the generator changes. We avoid presenting a simple strength badge as a guarantee: real attack cost depends on how a credential was generated, how a service stores it, and what an attacker already knows.

Limits you should understand

The generator is not a password manager, identity provider, or security audit. Generated results are delivered from the server to your browser, so you should use the site only over HTTPS. For high-value accounts, store credentials in a reputable password manager and enable multi-factor authentication or a passkey.
